Red Spot, Blue Spot

Do you see spots
Or have you forgot?

I close my eyes
When in my cot
And there he is
Round red spot.

He glows and dances and bounces around
I think he's funnier than a clown
As he bounds around and round and round
And lights a moment on the ground.

I close my eyes once again
And he's lockstep with my other friend.
Blue dot, blue dot
Like a shot
Takes one leap and then he stops.

Red dot, blue dot stare at me
They're my pals from Tennessee
Two Nashville singer wannabees.

"Hello!" I call out to Blue
Who arabesques likes a kangaroo
Singing County Western tunes
While Red hums blues on his new kazoo.

"Hello, my friend," I shout to Red
Now stacking peanuts on his head.
I wish they'd answer, but instead
They hear no words I have said.

They've closed their ears and shut one eye
So I imitate, "Why not I?"
Just then across my bedroom sky
Out pops a little yellow guy.

Yellow spot is more a square
He sits alone in a chair, there
With yellow streaks through his hair
Shivering alone, solitaire.
My room's aglow with rainbow hues
Red and blue sport dancing shoes,
And yellow spot waits for news
While I lay laughing, most bemused.

My mother rumbles down the hall,
"Who's bouncing on a bowling ball?"
She swings the door, lets in big white
Floods my room in monochrome light
My primary friends burst in fright
They defenestrate into the night
And disappear right out of sight.

She noses the room for naughty boys
Investigating all the noise
But only sees my smiling toys
Juxtaposed with my under-clothes
And me bunched-up in composed repose
So she carefully pulls the big door closed.

And through my window pane ajar
I squint my eyes and stare afar
To watch my friends metamorph to stars.
