Dad, How I Wish You Were Home To Talk To Me

Dad
how i wish you were here
to wipe away my last tear
Daddy, please hurry home
your baby girl needs your embrace

just please i ask you
ignore the tears that stain my face

Daddy, you are such a special man in my life
for the love you shared with mom and all of us
you worked so hard
to support us all
how you did it,
all by yourself
amazes me

i cain remember my first job
at eighteen
the babysittin' money i saved
to buy my first car

as i was walkin' home from school one day
i wanted you to approve of
a white sixty-one caddy in mint condition

for sale real cheap
from our neighbor
the sheriff down the street

you smiled as you looked it over
to make sure everything was safe
i was so proud of that car
as you were of me

you allowed me to drive it home
while you were my first passenger

it was no secret everybody knew
i was so much more prouder of you
for bein' my dad

you always apologized to me
for havin' to grow up so fast
when i was just eight

in many eyes
they may have felt that i missed out
in a childs life

but in mine
i do not feel that way
yet i must confess

many times
when i feel insecure
i become that eight year old
all over again
and i remember the touch of your love

i honored and respected you
in every given way
the bond we shared
never got torn nor shaken away

even when i married
the man of my life
i always had such deep respect for you
for givin' me space

not one regret do you and i have
i was always forever
showin' you off
so proud was i

i'd introduce you to all my friends
cause nither one of them
had such a super dad as mine
i was so lucky
that God chose you as my dad

i cain remember the many talks we shared
the many tears you saw flow from my eyes

tryin' to hold back the tears in your eyes
you saw me off to my first dance
you saw the look in my eye
when i had my first date
two years later
you saw me get married to him

i was so frightened
when cancer attacked you
a disease that was so ruthless and mean

You always shared your wisdom
and knowledge with me
and said babygirl,
God gave you a challengin' heart
for all you have been through
you will know what to do
it is your light and your strength
it will help you find the man
that will always be true to you
no matter what you say or do
just as it challeged me
when i became your dad

You always said:
life is never gonna be fair
you have to get back up
and keep reaching for what you want
if you found that happiness
never let it slip you by
go after it until you get it back
because real love is so hard to find
and never pull away from God
no matter what
never allow the Spaniard part
of your heart to get all tied up in knots
when it comes to love
and never allow the Native American
part of you become distant
keep them both intact
both are a part of your heart
love someone like it is your last
give him the best of yourself
with out expectin' back
at the end you already know
love always wins
and it will come back
you will know and feel the strength in you grow
when life throws you a curve
i trust you will handle it
with your kind carin' heart
never allow it to get bitter and cold
never allow yourself to back away from love
never allow yourself from fallin' in love
never give up in the love you believe in
Babygirl, always remember
Daddy is standing right besides you
in all good and bad
that life has in store for you
as well as any good man that
God sends to you
daddy for all you shared

Daddy,as i hold back these tears in my eyes
i want to say and share
from my heart to yours

I LOVE YOU DADDY!!

------- Author's Notes -------

with my husband at my side,i wrote this while we were waitin' to hear of my dads outcome, as i was holdin' back tears ,upon one of the days my dad entered the hospital for surgery in 1979,4 months before my daughter was born i felt that it's purpose when i wrote it fits in what i am goin' through right now. my dad was such a positive impact in my life, i miss him. we were very close.

You Have A Special Dad, Not Many Of Them Around

To me, this is the classic poem about a daughter's love and I think, its the most wonderful poem, you EVER wrote. Your Dad is, right, you would never love, anyone who could not love you back, that is just the kind of heart, a father wants his daughter to have, strong and free, never alone.
This is the best of the best poems, you have ever penned, it came fron an innocent heart, to her Dad.

My Dad, was truly very Special to my heart/Life..

Martin ,Thank you ! touched ,that you thought this was wonderful, yet we differ in opinions slightly ,i see it at a Fathers love for his daughter, and for "his" acceptin' and unconditional love for a CHALLENGIN' heart, when i entered his life, never realized the message he was tryin' to transmit to my heart, until recently, you have no idea how much your comment means to me..

Hi Brit,

Thank you for your warm Comment sweetie, you know,my dad got to read this christmas eve, we both cried together, i caused the last tear in his eye when i presented him w/a grandaughter, then he turns around and drains tears of blood from my heart, he passed away 6 months later, when my daughter was 3 months...
