When Eyes Close, For The Last Time

She was a friend of mine, saw her in the hallway all the time
Sometimes at the candy machine, she would walk up and ask?
Did you take the last chocolate bar? I replied, no Nancy
I opted for the peanuts, then she would smile at me

I went to visit Nancy in the hospital, was told, no visitors allowed
So, I went back to my office, unlocked the door and fell to my knees
Lord, you take so many home and notify, no one of your plan
Please Lord, let her know I miss her at the candy machine

Its full of chocolate, all she needs to do is smile
And the chocolate will flow for my friend. Her family,
Took her home yesterday, the doctors did all they could
The cancer had taken over, the heart I had known as a friend

Now, I wonder, when eyes close for the last time, are they blind?
Or is the world they walked in, spread before the heart, all is seen
Lord, I miss her, she was a good friend and I wonder, does she see me
At the candy machine, selecting peanuts, not chocolate bars, I wonder

What Nancy sees, I feel so alone by the candy machine then I see
Her smile, standing beside me, just a friend, wanting a chocolate bar
Nancy, I took peanuts, there are still chocolate bars for you, one last time
I see her smile and Lord, why do you take away, such love from our eyes?
