Your Hand In Mine
Author: Catyrose

I passed you on the street today
Our eyes met for a moment
Slowly you turned to walk away
I reached for your trembling hand
A shadow of fear now etched upon your face
Recognition? No, not even a trace
Eyes wracked with pain
Body bent and broken
Scarred by the life you have chosen
I call your name
You look confused
Youthful onlookers appear to be amused
For all they see
Are fragments of the man you used to be
They’ll never catch sight of the twinkle in your eyes
That gaze that used to mesmerize
Your mind was sharp beyond compare
Carriage erect, and dressed with care
You laughed; you loved with all your heart
Until your love, she did depart
Another place, another time
I gently held your hand in mine

What a sweet soul you are. So much tenderness in this poem, such gentle reminiscing and care for someone who is a shadow of their former self. The world is a better place for having you in it. This is just lovely. Thanks for sharing.

Thank You

Thank you for your kind words. Glad to hear the message I was trying to convey came thru. Was written with an ex-husband in mind, must be learning to forgive in my old age. :)
