Catyrose (128.123.84.125) -- Sunday, May 13 2007, 03:20 am You've done it again Barb. The points you've made here are well taken. So many people haven't a clue how difficult doing everyday things are for a person with a disability. I am not disabled. And I HATE the aisles at Wal-Mart. |
Catyrose (128.123.84.125) -- Sunday, May 13 2007, 03:28 am Years ago I worked in a nursing home and part of the training was to go thru the day in a wheel chair, to have someone else feed you, etc. I have never forgotten that experience. I think that store managers should have be reqired to have a similar experience. |
Catyrose (128.123.84.125) -- Sunday, May 13 2007, 03:37 am Great points about the ramps and sidewalks. If you are not already involved I'd suggest you get involved in the ADA. You have a lot of great ideas. You should make your voice heard. Policy makers need to gain a better understanding of what they can do to assist those w a disability |
barb (67.58.207.180) -- Sunday, May 13 2007, 04:41 am It's a good eye opener to have to experience what you are doing before you pass the course.Amd yes store managers and other business owners should realize they should spend the extra to make it accessible for the disabled,no stairs,no curbs.wider halls. If they do, the extra money they used to make it easier, will bring them more business and the extra business will pay off, better for them. better for us. Oh thanks Becky for posting this for me. |
Ben Franklin (82.27.206.117) -- Tuesday, May 15 2007, 05:59 pm Many a time we wanted to get in to certain shops which just did not have the accesses. yes aisles would be narrow, and sods law most things that you wanted would be on the top shelf! your story touched me as I know exactly what you talking about. Its time for people to wake up and make some changes.....but its also up to the victims to keep shouting! have a great week barb |
barb (67.58.207.13) -- Tuesday, May 15 2007, 11:35 pm What is done for us is nice but they have to meet the needs and grow with the times. |
Capricorn (82.45.57.95) -- Thursday, May 17 2007, 01:20 am Well said Barb and it takes people like you to keep speaking out, or else nothing will get done. I've been in store where there's no room for me, let alone a wheelchair. It's about time this was thought out properly, with your (and other diasabled people's) help. |
barb (67.58.208.48) -- Thursday, May 17 2007, 02:33 am I have a big mouth and not afraid of using it lol |
MAFLongfellow (72.69.75.181) -- Tuesday, May 22 2007, 09:49 pm you are so right about letting a disables person design handicapped access and other things only a person who is challenged know how things should be. i push my daughter in a wheelchair everyday and run into obstacles constantly. it can be very frussssssstraiting sometimes. good luck to us all,, take care |
barb (67.58.193.200) -- Wednesday, May 23 2007, 01:31 am I'm so glad that you guys agree with me.It's hard enough being different due to a freak accident of life. We should be able to have our needs met. Thanks for letting me know I;m just not being difficult. |
