The Word Of The Lord (sonnet)
9 January, 2008
Author: Mark Spencer
I’ve tried to be strong, I’ve tried to be brave,
I lived on the edge, between life and death.
I have taken risks, and challenged the grave,
I fought to the end, until my last breath.
I’ve grappled with God, resisting belief,
In death I was born, returned from the light.
And learning the truth, I found my relief,
Which gave me the strength to take up the fight.
With truth in my mouth and God in my heart,
I dispatch the lies that I once believed.
They can’t stand against what heaven imparts,
No more than the proud, whom Satan deceived.
The power of truth can vanquish the sword,
And none can defeat the word of the Lord.
