In This Alcove Of Darkness: Poems 1 To 5
9 May, 2009
Author: Colin Stewart
They placed your heart upon the sacred rock
before you had time to get up and walk
in order to venerate sacrificial talk
when blood flowed around the Mayan clock!
--
Our morbid tendencies may seem to be daft.
When the audience cried we both laughed
over a scene which called for bitter tears
and to be contradicted by our Bronx cheers!
--
The laundry list has been read
for those who walk among the living dead
searching in vain for a cleaner shirt
to eliminate the stench of graveyard dirt!
--
His eyes are wild and his tongue is loose
with the famous last words of a man in a noose.
"So here is my confession to finally tell
Jack the Ripper will see you all in Hell!"
--
Whether the boogyman is fact or merely fiction
he challenges the license of artistic depiction
and in front of this mirror it's hard to blink
when reality is much closer than you think!
