When The Carousel Of Life Came To A Halt: 5 Poems

Up above the bluebirds soar!
Soldiers return to the ones they adore.
This fairytale has ended all remnants of war
but peace shall be broken like so often before!

--

Self-absorption is the reason why
every sentence begins with the letter 'I'
neglecting the 2nd person pronoun 'you'
when those who really listen are so few!

--

This cryptic message read "Wish you were here"
although it's the return address that I fear
and the name on the postcard gave me a chill
as one of the many I had chosen to kill!

--

Gang mentality may be their rage
for those who have not come of age
mindlessly embedded in the war they wage
and only one step from living in a cage!

--

You have to step up in order to serve.
This tricky procedure requires some nerve.
At this ungodly hour it all seems so strange
for a new father dealing with a diaper change!
