History Often Stands At The Crossroads Of Time: 5 Poems
7 June, 2009
Author: Colin Stewart
The Mad Hatter's tea party is on a coffee break.
Democracy takes a beating and freedom is at stake
when political apathy is much more than a hunch
that the partisans in question are clearly out to lunch!
--
Rush hour traffic made him late.
Destiny was avoided on this date
and at the time history offered no clue.
Napoleon met providence and missed his Waterloo!
--
A legend it seems is often misunderstood
and such was the case with Robin Hood.
He robbed from the rich but failed to declare
until an auditor appeared and stripped him bare!
--
He is rolling over in his grave
as this cheesy legacy tends to deprave
and Frederic Chopin cannot be proud
when his elevator muzak is played too damn loud!
--
When John Wilkes Booth jumped onto the stage
his rebel heart was full of rage
and he gave a performance that will never age
when history turned this tragic page!
