5 Essential Subjects Found In Country Music: 5 Poems
14 November, 2009
Author: Colin Stewart
Cowboy Boots:
You can push old granny down the stairs.
Pluck out my eyebrows and those stubborn chest hairs
but one thing is sacred and beyond dispute.
Please don't get any mud on my new cowboy boot!
---
The Steel Guitar:
It follows me there into my sleep.
I didn't know heartache would come this cheap
and I cannot escape this imaginary leap
of what makes a steel guitar always weep!
---
Guns:
The darkness of night filled me with dread.
I pointed my gun at the open shed
and out came the bear soon to be dead.
A case of mistaken identity for our cousin Ned!
---
Lost Love:
My baby left me the other day.
They came right over and drove her away.
I can't believe this streak of bad luck.
They repossessed my pick-up truck!
---
Drinking:
Everything is fine. I will not blink.
The bluebird of happiness even gave me a wink
and from life's many trials I never sink
as I need no excuse to sit here and drink!
