For All The World We Never Had

vinebar

for all the Christmas Eves that I missed,
for all the walks in the softly falling snow that I missed,
for all the shy smiles beneath the mistletoe that I missed,
for all the stolen kisses that I missed,
for all the warmth of your hand in mine that I missed,
for all the thoughts unspoken,
for all the hopes and dreams unrealized,
for all the promises never made,
for all the joys never shared,
for all the needs and wants unmet,
for all the hurt and all the anger
at life, or fate or God's design,
for all the tears, all the smiles,
for all the wondering about you,
for all the thoughts about you,
throughout the many years gone by...
for all the moments of looking into your eyes that I missed,
for all the questions I could never find an answer to,
as elusive as those answers must have been...

for all of that,-
I can still smile,
because I can imagine how it would have been,
and, in the memories of my mind,
how it must have been... how it was.
