Upon Meeting, What Beverage Would I Drink, You Asked ?

i'm a water person -
a rain walker -
swimming in high tide
under waves -
floating with the river,
a book of tao in hand -
sliding on ice
sucking ice cubes
drench me
drop water bombs on me
i'll sail around the world
in a tall ship
and do it again
give me water -
cold
spring water
summer water
in a glass that steams with
icy condensation -
over a table
that's seen conversations
of births of romances
break ups breakdowns
freak outs
missed connections rejections
carved initials in the wood
cigarette burns
and it is here we talk
and talk
blush - feel a rush
look deep into the eyes -
beyond the gaze
into the maze of unspoken thoughts

i draw lines with my fingers
on the mists of coolness
on my glass

morning light shadows
merge with afternoon sunlight
and this water person
craves
a hit of something
warmer
stronger
give me a large cup of irish coffee
heavy on the baileys
throw me a chaser of brandy on the side
countreau or chemineaud - or both
i want that faster buzz
that burning rush
going down
and then heading to my brain
as the lights go dimmer
and twilight sets in
cheeks flushed
sounds echoing
guitars strumming
shadow people dancing -

nightime jazz now
filters
around you
and i
still talking laughing
over spilled water and strong coffee
encapsulated in our own booth
of banter -

and then,
the sound of cicadas
wakes me
out of my reverie -

i enjoyed you
whole heartedly
in this
dress rehearsal -
