Tytlerís Cycle
Author: Mark Spencer

America is full of groups
Who congregate like Cub Scout troops
Believing theyíve a better eye
On what is best for you and I

Convinced the truth is theirs to wield
They gather on the battle field
And frame the next lifestyle for you
The words you speak and things you do

And though youíre the majority
These groups have gained authority
And with it they will overturn
A vote that fills them with concern

And such a vote will always be
A law with which they disagree
For lady justice tipped her scales
And freedom hit the dusty trails

Itís been replaced by group control
They know whatís best for every soul
For theyíre the wisest in the land
It falls to them to hold your hand

If your beliefs oppose their rules
Theyíll be removed from courts and schools
No God will tell them what to do
That is the job they do for you

For you arenít wise enough to choose
And yours are antiquated views
So sit back and enjoy the ride
They know the way and theyíll provide

This is the way life has become
Weíre marching to this beating drum
They have a passion for their cause
While apathetic spirits pause

Dependence is the next in line
And you canít even see the sign
That Tytlerís Cycle has come round
It wonít be long before weíre bound

For Tytler knew the cycleís path
He saw the signs and did the math
But apathy has no concerns
And this is how the circle turns

There arenít enough courageous souls
To put an end to selfish goals
The Cub Scout troops will win the day
And theirs will be the only way

Until the cycle starts again
And faith inspires the citizen
To fight for life and liberty
To overcome complacency

This is our future and our past
For freedom never seems to last
In selfishness it meets defeat
And Tytlerís Cycle just repeats

But we donít learn from history
Such things remain a mystery
If you donít think that statementís true
Was Tytlerís Cycle new to you
