I Will Never Donate To The Red Cross.... And Here's Why.

I will never donate to the Red Cross.
First, they have more money than they need,
and they have a CEO that gets paid in excess of $694,000 yearly.
When I was a PFC in Berlin, Germany in 1965, my monthly pay was nearly 80 dollars.
Before deductions.
My mother was diagnosed with cancer and had been given months to live.
The Red Cross said that I must go home for a while.
I told them I had no money to make such a trip, Berlin to Louisiana.
They countered with, “We will furnish the money and tickets.”
I told them I could not afford to repay them.
The countered with, “We will make it a loan on hardship terms, meaning you will not have to repay it as it would cause a financial hardhship for you. Take the offer and go home to your mother.”
I took the offer and went home.
I then returned to Berlin.
On payday I received a voucher and payment in the amount fo $20 dollars, with the annotation that my balance of pay was being applied to my loan from the Red Cross.
When I voiced my concern regarding them telling me that I would have the loan under the authority of a
Hardship loan, they countered with, “Do you have anything in writing specifying that?”
Sadly, of course, I did not.
I had NPD (No Pay Due) every thirty days, excepting basic maintenance allowance ($20) for necessary grooming items, for the next 16 months.

When hurricane Agnes hit upstate New York, and did so much damage that the Red Cross set up shelters all along the route of travel for the hurricane, they brought in cots and blankets and set up in school gyms and such.

Naturally, as they handed out the supplies and such things as cleaning items, clothing, cots, blankets (ALL OF WHICH WERE FREAKING DONATED TO THEM!) they took down the names and other information of those to whom they gave the items to, “to be able to account for the items being handed out.”
I was a mailman as well as a member of the National Guard, working one of the locations.
After the situation was over with, I was delivering bills from the Red Cross to those who had received the DONATED ITEMS from the Red Cross, charging them for basic necessities packages, blankets, cots, and other items they had traded their names and addresses for. And the Red Cross got their blankets and cots returned to them! No one kept them.

THE GREEDY BASTARDS, WHOSE CEO EARNED NEARLY 700 THOUSAND DAMN DOLLARS A YEAR, WANTED MONEY SENT TO THEM FOR ITEMS THEY HAD BEEN GIVEN, ITEMS THEY HAD NOT PURCHASED OR PAID FOR, BUT ITEMS THAT HAD BEEN DONATED TO THEM, TO BE USED IN DISASTER SITUATIONS.

THE RED CROSS LIES. THE RED CROSS IS NOTHING MORE THAN A GRANDSTANDING ORGANIZATION, MUCH, MUCH WORSE THAN TELEVANGELISTS WHO CON MONEY FROM THE ELDERLY ON TV.

I WILL NEVER, AS LONG AS I LIVE, DONATE TO THE RED CROSS, AND I DO NOT RECOMMEND THAT OTHERS DONATE TO THEM, EITHER.
