What It Means To Be A Christian
13 October, 2003
Author: Mark Spencer
In early Christianity,
In a time of Roman rule.
If you chose to follow Jesus,
You were looked on as a fool.
To give up all you’d worked for
For a life of sacrifice?
Yet they all did it gladly,
It was not too high a price.
There were years of persecution,
They were slain for their beliefs.
Tossed like ships in a hurricane,
That were dashed upon the reefs.
Against these trials, they persevered,
‘Twas their faith that got them through.
Standing firm in their conviction,
And to their Lord, they stayed true.
They did not pray aloud in church,
Nor loudly sing hymns of praise.
They would not make a spectacle,
Of their faith or Christian ways.
What it means to be a Christian,
Can’t be found within a hymn.
It’s found inside the hearts of those,
Who would give their lives for Him.
