You Kids Are Growing Up Too Fast
21 July, 2003
Author: Ben Laney
You kids are growing too fast for me
I wish I could stop the time
Every time I look around and see
I see another year has flown by
Kite strings and rainbow dreams
Little feet running in the sand
Come here, be near to me
Don't go slipping through my hands
You kids are growing too fast for me
Nothing ever slows you down
Pretty soon you'll spread your wings
And fly to some brand new ground
Crayons, they're all gone
Along with Big Chief drawing pads
And though I know you must fly on
Still it makes me a little sad
You kids are growing too fast for me
I want you to quit, quit right now
Freeze for a moment and let me be
In your lives longer somehow
All too soon you jump the moon
On your way to reach out for your star
But won't you save Dad some room
While you're still the children you are
You kids are growing too fast for me
Nothing ever slows you down
You kids are growing too fast for me
I want you too quit, quit right now
------- Author's Notes -------
Whether or not you blink your eyes you just can't stop the passing of time. Maybe if I hadn't given them so much water, this wouldn't have happened! (Not to mention the tons of food.) QUIT RIGHT NOW!! |

Ben Laney (68.127.169.72) -- Monday, August 23 2004, 07:35 pm Dylan, I must inform you, girl, that I am NOT getting old, and I am not growing up, no way, no how! Just because you are, it doesn't mean I have to. Thank you, though, for your comment on this one. I am glad it made you laugh. Love, Dad |
Ben Laney (68.127.169.72) -- Monday, August 23 2004, 07:40 pm jamie, thank you for sharing your point of view, I do appreciate what you're saying and I agree. No parent should try to live through their kids. Parents are only human too, though. Sometimes we need our kids to help raise us right! Haa! Haaaa! Kind Regards, Ben |
Linda (67.125.1.68) -- Thursday, September 22 2005, 05:08 pm I love your poem. I tells me that letting go is not always easy. |
Ben Laney (65.136.19.151) -- Thursday, September 22 2005, 09:13 pm Linda we lose control the instant.we gain these other human beings (if you can call kids human beings) and we never regain that which was lost. So we hope, we pray and we keep on going. These kids just grow too fast for me! Thank you very much for your kind and positive words. I do appreciate them a lot! |
