Just Can't Get That Zen Feeling
Author: Pondering Red

I just can't get this zen feeling
It's hard in this city
at times...
with the
concrete - heat
Misty pollution
Smoggy haze
of these
city summer days.
And then there's that
darn gas station outside.
Well, the old tree hides the nasty view.
And it sounds like war out there-
the clutter and clammer of summer people
and cars and buses
noisy summer buses
the swoosh of cars from the expressway.

The smog veils the mountain-
artificial ethereal beauty-
unatural city mist-

Just can't get that zen feeling
these days
No wind...
in stifling city heat...
Even the birds are hiding...
Sea gulls
may have taken flight-
a holiday perhaps
from this concrete world...
Squirrels are not seen either..
Don't even hear the cicadas chirping.
Sipping a Milwaukee dry beer
may get you a notch
closer to that good old zen feeling..

But alas..
here i sit
and this darn town
is running out of blueberies..
Where have all the blueberries gone ?
And it's not rasberry season yet
Why not ?
And so i sit.
Here we sit-
Smoking in stereo.
We can bike to the canal..
but it ain't no ocean..
This is an island city
i'm stuck in the middle
with water just too far away...
From the bedroom window
it's a green view
of thousands of leaves..
One would never imagine
what lies beyond....
And if one stands on their toes
the mountain appears
that darn gas station
as i said,
these days
it's kinda hard
to get
that old zen feeling back...

I know that feeling

Some days you just can't quite enjoy life and find the nice peaceful feelings.. Matters of fact had one of those days today myself... I love how your work always captures a feeling or a place so well. Very descriptive and a true joy to read.. Thanks
