It's Been A Long Time
Author: Meridian Zuriel

It’s been a long time, since I’ve seen your face
It’s been a long time, since I’ve felt your embrace
It’s been a long time, since I’ve heard your voice
Sometimes I forget, that you’re too old for toys
Where do all the years go? My, you’ve grown up so fast
I wish I could see the future you, I’m tired of relying on the past
Why haven’t you phoned me? Don’t you even care about me?
I’m the one who birthed you, clothed you, and gave you food to eat
Who potty trained you, washed, bathed, and looked after you?
Who made sure, the kids were treating you right in school?
Who tucked you in bed every night?
Who said, “Don’t let the bedbugs bite?
Who sat by your side, until you got some shuteye?
Who comforted you, when you cried?
Where’s the love son? What did I do to deserve this hon?
Who replaced your dark days, with a little sun?
Remember when you sometimes thought that there was no hope left?
Remember whenever you were sad, you came into my arms, and wept?
I hate this long distance and the long miles that separate us
I want to see you before it’s, “ashes to ashes, and dust to dust”
I long to spend some time with you, before I’m six feet under
I know your life right now is sunshine, but for me, it’s thunder
It’s been so long; since I’ve heard your skillful fingers play the piano
It’s been so long, that there’s no warmth at night; only freezing cold
Remember me reading bedtime stories to you when you were but so old?
Do you remember the very first time I taught you how to fold clothes?
Do you remember when we used to ride bikes all day in the park together?
Do you remember when we used to taste the drops from the rainy weather?
It’s been a long time since you’ve written your mother a letter
It hurts me to know, that you have a wife, and I haven’t even met her
Remember when, we used to catch beetles and lightning bugs?
Remember on the patio, you used to sit under me all cozy and snug?
I know that only memories, are left, and that you’re a grown man now
Even though it’s hard, I’ll just try my best, to make it through somehow
