The Difference Between A Happy And Broken Home
Author: Ben Franklin

They say home is where the heart is,
but I came from broken one,
always being made to feel like
I was a hopeless son,

put downs with every word Id speak,
never thought my parents would be moral beaters,
not helping me reach my peak.

Taking their unhappy existence out on me,
not once in my childhood did I feel like a kid should

Dad would go out for a heavy drink,
when Id see him staggering back towards our porch
my heart would sink.

The whiskey told him he was his only friend,
it would beat up his mind,
then he would take it out on me
and whoop my behind.

Mum would always say
it was for my own good,
It will teach me to be a man in this area
we call the hood.

Now I have three kids of my own,
thank you mum and dad for showing me the difference
between a happy and broken home.
