Chatterbox
Author: Meridian Zuriel

She’ll talk the horns off a Billy goat
So I give her a cue, and put on my coat
Anything to get away from that mouth of hers
She talks nonstop; continuous are her words
What? I sound mean? If you heard her, you’d do the same
I guarantee you’d think the opposite of what you proclaim
I couldn’t listen to that chic all day; I had a class to go to
I had to cut the conversation off sometime. Wouldn’t you?

Trying to work up a smile and be as nice as I can
What else is there to say? Surely she understands.
I didn’t expect her to talk for so long
I thought she’d end it, but I was wrong
Her speech was as lengthy as a Food Lion receipt
If there were any chairs around, I would’ve taken a seat
Looked at the school clock, the minutes steady going by
After awhile I said my, “Well, I guess I’ll be going” reply

At first I thought she took the hint, but I was wrong again
The conversation took another turn. I just couldn’t win.
She told me her life story within a good twenty minutes
Throwing every little detail at me sentence by sentence
What in the world? How can someone talk continuously?
Not pausing for breath at commas; just talking endlessly
Speaking in run-ons, like sink water that someone forgot to turn off
Annoyed and impatient, I gave her my ‘will you hurry up’ cough

Ain’t no time for being soft, I’m already late as it is
Plus, I almost forgot about today’s Math quiz
It’s not that easy to go about your destination
Yes, it’s okay to lend an ear and have a conversation
But when do you terminate it? When do you say goodbye?
I was very nice to her, listening and all, but just too shy
I wanted to say it in the right attitude, careful not to rush
You know, what I felt like saying? Better yet, let me hush.

---you know I love ya!---

------- Author's Notes -------

It's not coming from me, but from a fiction girl. Well, let's assume. Poem's about a girl who doesn't mind talking to people, and listening to them, but when the conversation goes past forty-five minutes to an hour, how does she cut it off? What does she say?

Hahha

So both of you have encountered talkers before eh? I have too, but the poem I've written didn't actually happen like that. I just added some stuff. But the chatterbox part was real. LOL! Thanks Taylor James and Britney for the comments and the relations! Take it easy ladies!
