Sleep By My Side Again
26 January, 2004

While sleeping I hear your voice,
Did you call my name or send a thought?
I awake to see your no longer there,
I’m thinking of you night and day,
Cannot move forwards,
When I know we are not through,
I see you need a friend,
This shows me your love was never there,
You moved on easy left me standing,
I told you once I left you standing,
But I’d wait till your love could start,
To force you to say those words,
I’d dreamed you would,
I never wanted said until you were ready,
And you’d mean them when said,
Then one day in that fateful December,
You said all three while on the phone,
I called you back “yes I said them”,
You told me with a smile,
At last I heard the words I’d only dreamt you say,
At last I started to relax we would not part one day,
Then only weeks later you ended it all,
I don’t love you, but I love my friend,
Ever been dumped before,
It hurts every day inside,
My love was true,
Never would it waver,
Now I’m lost,
In a sea with no guidance for a map,
I wake every night hoping to sleep,
When you laid next to me through the night,
I would sleep till the new daybreak,
Now I wish everyday would pass,
Quicker than the last,
Still waiting for you to come back to my side,
Lay next to me once more,
“I Love You”.

Extraordinary!

This poem reminded me of a poem I once wrote about two lovers who were only known to each other by the moon. This poem that you've written is absolutely extraordinary! It really got a bit a depth and captured the feel of it all for the reader. Great job!
