America The Beautiful
Author: Mark Spencer

America the beautiful,
Pretending to be dutiful.
Are you so blind you cannot see
The suffering in front of thee?

Why do so many charities
Focus on children overseas,
When we've got children of our own,
Who are cold, hungry, and alone?

We stood up for the Kuwaitis,
And we rebuilt homes in Haiti.
So tell me why we disregard
The needy in our own back yard?

Americans live on our streets,
And rarely have enough to eat.
The uninsured must face despair,
When they're denied medical care.

The face we wear for foreign eyes,
Is just a poorly worn disguise.
The funds we spend on foreign aid,
Could bring an end to this charade.

Three million homeless shuffle by,
As uninsured go home to die.
How can we say this land is great,
If citizens endure this fate?

We always try to take the lead,
When friends abroad call out in need.
Yet souls abandoned to defeat,
Are those forgotten on our streets.

America the beautiful,
Pretending to be dutiful.
Are you so blind you cannot see
The suffering in front of thee?

Blind as bats!

I wonder what the founding father would say, if they could see what we've done to the country they fought and died for?

It's about time!!

Mark, It's about time that someone spoke up about this. America is so quick to come to the aid of other countries, but when disaster strikes us, it takes weeks before we receive any help. I'm so sick of those commercials asking for donations to help children in South America, or Africa, when there are children right here in America who don't have shoes, clean clothes, or even food. Great message! I really like this.
