Mommy lets play outside,
I want to play football with the rest of the guys,
Mommy watch this,
I can catch the ball,
His father threw it towards him,
as his little boy jumped for it,
She smiled and laughed,
as he did a little victory dance,
He was young and bright,
he held the stars in his eyes,
full of laughter and smiles,
this kid was her life.
A car drove by,
but no one noticed it,
It came by again,
and shots rang out,
as the little boy fell to the ground,
he cried out in pain,
his mothers name,
She screamed and ran to him,
yelling for some one to call 911.
Her world passed through her eyes,
as she seat in the waiting room,
waiting for the doctor,
tears kept to fall over and over,
he came in looking at her,
he said her little boy wouldn't make it through the night,
as he lead her back to his room,
he was hooked up all to these machines,
as she stared at him quietly,
The night passed by slowly,
as she held her little boy's hand,
She felt it tighten within a grip,
and he struggled to speak,
she whispered for him to stay quiet
that he would be ok,
but still he spoke out any way,
Mommy tell me am I going to die? Am I going to see grandma in the sky?
I don't know what happened, who were those guys,
why did they do this mommy, oh mommy please don't cry,
you know I love you with all my life.
Her tears rolled faster now,
as he kept to go on,
telling her things he did that were wrong,
he apologized over and over,
as she touched his cheek,
he looked at her softly and spoke
Mommy if this is the end, then please don't be sad,
we'll see each other once again,
I'll make sure of this,
I'll ask god for a spot at the gates,
and I'll sit and wait,
Mommy when you come to heaven,
I'll be waiting at the gates,
and then we can be together forever.
I love you mommy and I'll see you soon,
with that he was gone,
his grip let go,
and she screamed no,
How could this be she thought,
Standing there at his funeral,
her thoughts floated in the air,
In her mind all she could think was,
how could this be,
my child was suppose to bury me,
not me bury him.
The wind blew around her,
and it was him again,
holding her in his grip,
like he did that night he died,
She placed a dozen roses on his grave,
turned and blew a kiss to the wind,
whispering wait for me at the gates,
I'll be coming for you, I promise,
my baby boy.
When she hears the sound of a childs laughter
she thinks of him,
and when a baby screams for their mother,
he comes back again,
when a child smiles, and grins,
she remembers every thing he did.
He left her with memories,
and so much love, that he gave.
She knows that she'll be with him,
once again one day,
till then the little boy sits and waits
at heavens gates for his mommy.
