For Me To Stay

Scattered by my feet I see fragments of my heart,
I want to mend this part of me but I'm not sure where to start?
So I pick myself up and promise to take no more,
hearing my heart break as she closes the door.

Peeping through the window I see she requires pastures new,
but I'm just like the sky; always going to be blue.
Strangers come and go trying to keep up the pretence,
but what they're really thinking is thank God that one's seen sense.

A cold shoulder isn't the easiest thing to abnegate,
but I figured if I was patient one day soon we'd be great.
That day never came I think with a tear in my eye,
as the last word I heard from her was good-bye.

The word with my being I still cannot bear to hear,
but she doesn't care that it makes me shed a tear.
It's two syllables cut me deep down inside,
as the part of me emerges that I try so hard to hide.

On my knees now as my strength has been stolen,
trying to remember the day when you told me for you I've fallen.
But it's buried so deep beneath the tears that I've wept,
my mind is so tired as it's months since it slept.

I find it awash with visions of you,
images that tear my heart evenly in two.
So i get up and tell myself time to walk away,
for I now know that there's no reason FOR ME TO STAY!!!
