Take Flight

Once unfaltered courage withers before my very eyes,
a shrivelled wreck of a woman is all that now lies.
Weary of fighting to keep my dream alive,
losing my faith with my strength to survive.

Adversities and woes that may come my way,
I no longer hold the power to keep them at bay.
My fountain of knowledge it seems has ran dry,
as words of comfort fail me all I can do is cry.

Falling deeper than the crevice in my heart,
though I'm at square one I don't know where to start.
Full circle I've came and I continue to walk this ring-road,
bearing the brunt of my failures I have been bestowed.

Kicking myself for laying my fortress open to attack,
maybe my genuinity and naive ways I should lack?
Always seeing the best in people has only caused me pain,
so perhaps now is the time to refrain?

For the harder I try the harder I fall,
the posts removed when I come within inches of my goal.
Retreating back to the way I used to be,
as I feel something precious die inside of me.

Did it die or is it simply fading away,
am I going to live to see the day?
That I don't hurt the way I am tonight,
where my only wish is that these wings would TAKE FLIGHT?!?!
