My Light That Shone

For so long I was tortured by memories,
willing for them to fade as I fell to my knees.
Keeping myself at arms length from anyone,
abnegating the light in my darkness which shone.

Shining so bright I could deny it no more,
so on the world I opened my door.
Stepping cautiously into the great unknown,
fitting in perfectly as so much I have grown.

Repulsed no more by my own reflection,
as I learn to show my overwhelming affection.
Which cannot be kept down and fights to be released,
but I was so sure that the fight in me had ceased.

Yet it lives on refusing to wither and die,
so no longer do I have it in me to deny.
The fact that I am doing much more than fine,
as I take my place beneath the sunshine.

Arms open wide as to be loved I'm prepared,
no longer going to hide as no more am I scared.
To give the part of me that beats so fast,
as bruises fade from my past.

Moving forth at a steady pace,
my lukewarm tears disappear without a trace.
Creating a winding path for me to walk upon,
now that I realise it was MY LIGHT THAT SHONE!!!
