For You

A never-ending dream of melancholy
A requiem of deep lament
Drifting in a world of nothing
Falling in hopeless descent

Tried to rise but nothing to climb
Pain became my only friend
Alone and afraid, no one could see
The broken heart unable to mend

Tears fell on empty hands
Scars refused to go away
Blood rushing to the ground
My world in toxic decay

I thought it was the end
The pain was too great
Pills rolled in my hand
My eyes full of hate

But then you were standing there
Looking into my soul
Smiling with an outstretched hand
Making me feel whole

Your eyes were full of fire
The intense blue could never fade
But filled with understanding love
You’re everything I prayed

You told me how it could be
How life begins each day
The memories there to take
Chasing away the grey

You help me become at peace
To see past the stormy night
Opening my eyes to
Morning’s guiding light

You saved me from myself
Inspired me to reach high
Unfolded wings to take flight
To soar above the sky

You taught me to be the man I wish to be
The one destined to be great
The one who’s heart is compassionate
The man who does not hate

I can never hope to repay you
For all you have done for me
So I give to you these words of mine
The story of how you set me free
