You Never Knew.

I know you too well now to know that this is a joke,
So I grinned up at you knowingly as you spoke.
“I don’t think I’m ready for this kind of commitment..”
I know when you’re lying, you were never that brilliant.

So there I am smiling whilst you persuasively carry on,
Within a second, my certainty of your joke has gone.
You do this all the time and I act like I know you don’t mean it,
But inside I’m trying to work you out and wishing you’d quit.

You see the truth is, deep inside, I’m scared..
Frightened to death of losing you, I’m so unprepared.
Speaking your mind is a gift if you want an honest relationship,
But the things you say are the things that make my barrier slip.

So I fall.. tumble down into uncertainty and darkness,
Praying to God I won’t find myself surrounded by my own loneliness.
My heart is not a toy, so don’t let your love cease..
And the moral of this piece?

“Think before you act.”

------- Author's Notes -------

This.. is just weird. Many people won't get it, at all.. so it's kinda like, someone joking about stuff thats important and physically you show you know it's a joke but emotionally your scared. And sometimes that person will tell you things you didn't want to know, and then they change their mind.. and you think, "Why tell me if you weren't sure?" and it's too late cause it already tore you apart.. Get it? ;S

Emma, I know exactly how you feel.. Too many times, people say something then 'change their minds', but as you said.. It's too late.

Wow, sometimes it feels as if you're looking into my mind and life while you write.. Amazing work.
