My daddy served till I was six.
A Navy man, He loved his ship.
Rejecting Hero he would proclaim,
"Those who died should have that name."
Sailed many times across the waves.
Rescuing prisoners, from cells as graves.
A Coxman warning of things to come,
That sound still echos to setting sun.
Blow the Whistle, as bugles blare!
Today Veterians shall be honored Everywhere!

------- Author's Notes -------

Dad has been gone one year now. The world will never be the same without him and because of him.

marilyn, this is a beautiful poem...

This is a beautiful tribute, and one that others can read and relate to as well. My father-in-law was an old Navy salt, and he had much the same attitude - I think it was part of the way the Sailors of that time were - they lived the way they felt, inside - because he, too, would not allow anyone to call him a hero, or to make much of his service. He was proud to have served, but he didn't think it so special, much like your father. It was just the way those men were. A beautiful poem, and I want to thank you for sharing it with us. peace... hank
