A Fools Game

How do you do it?
The words flow so sweetly off your silver tongue?
Has it all been rehearsed
Is deception a part of your makeup?
It amazes me how we fall hook, line and sinker for that charm
Is it the helplessness, neediness you display?
That little boy look you wear?
I think not
It was the hole in my soul that caused me to fall
Into the abyss
It's dark in here
I'll claw my way out and up into the light
Never to be blinded once more

You wrought insult upon insult on my soul
I bore up under the onslaught
Afraid to hold on
Afraid to let go
I wanted you gone
I wanted you back
Yet you were a mere illusion
A prince I had constructed within my mind
You never existed
How can you miss someone who never was?

feelings were true

Is your beauty my illusion,
Do your soft lips ever lie?
Never did you speak those word with care,
the words I long to hear.
Today, I walk alone once more,
Today I laugh alone again,
Without you my world is turned upside down.
