U-boat Death
Author: David Soriano

vinebar

Awash with two feet
Of the stinking diesel fuel

Could no longer dive
Bring it to the surface

Tried in vain to air the ship
Could not charge her batteries

Two hours after the incident
Came an escort carrying a unifoxer

Heaven sent fog to blanket the scene
Got away slowly in the darkness

Taking on the waters of the sea
The ship had to be abandoned

We had served as best we could
But the war was now clearly over

The final idea that came to mind
What port could be a safe haven?
