A Broken Man
Frightened eyes stare back at me
Wondering who can this be?
Strong and sturdy in his younger years
Tough and hard, never shed a tear
His mind was sharp as a tack
Master of the clever come-back
Slowing down with age
No longer consumed with rage
Alone and afraid
He now calls my name
Asking me to ease his pain
To become a friend
Until the end
My heart aches
As I ponder which steps I shall take
A life Iíve built all my own
So many years banished from my home
The black sheep you called me then
Today you choose to call me friend?
