You Died..

I was electrified by your eyes as they closed,
Drawn to your bitterswet mouth as it took its last breath.
I stroked your hair, fascinated with your every shudder as your life left you.

Morbidly fascinated.

Watching now, as your skin greys, your lips turn purple,
I feel the calm that can only come after losing a loved one,
The calm before the storm of emotions takes over.
Before the moans, the cries, the screams.
Before I feel the heartwrenching pangs of regret for
All the things I should have said.

And the things I did say.

Before I feel the emptiness inside,
Rising up from the bottom of the well that is my sorrow.
But for now, I stay calm,
Comptemplating the meaning of life,
And indeed.. Death.

Descriptive. Intriguing. Intense. Hey Mike! "You Died" captures the narrator's feelings well...like always! Continue on poet, continue on in writing!
