Her skin was the color of peaches and cream
The clear blue sky shown from bright eyes
Hair as fiery as a blazing inferno
A light dusting of freckles adorned her delicate features
Such a radiant and lovely creature
Her body lithe and lean
Carried herself with style and grace
A mind alive and oh so keen
She was the woman of his dreams
As days passed
Her skin grew pale
Bright eyes lost their luster
Zest for life, she failed to muster
Her words grew few
If she spoke at all
The breath of life
Slipping quietly away
Yet he still recalls her younger days
He always thought that he'd go first
The doctors say her days are few
He struggles to decide just what to do
The key to his heart she’s held for so long
When she leaves this earth
What shall he do?
Where will he belong
Without the love that kept him strong?
He never realized till this moment
She was his reason
For living, for being
Leaning across the bedside rail
He kisses this woman now so frail
She was his all, his everything
A friend, A lover, A wife so dear
As he turns to leave
He sheds the first of a lifetime of tears

That poem is so strong and brought tears to my eyes

Sorry for his loss

Knocked me over.

This is an outstanding write. It's so sad.
One thing I usually notice is that people are more sorry for the surviver who lost a loved one than for the departed who lost ALL of her loved ones. (and whatever else she loved in life)

Thank you

I really do appreciate all your comments. I wrote this awhile back when my step-mom went in the nursing home. We were told she wouldn't last much longer. The good news is she's doing much better. She had stroke and can no longer walk, but her mind is as strong as ever. And Dad, well he visits regularly and appreciates her more now than ever. :)
