She’s like every other person you see,
Yet she’s the only one who gets the stares.
She’s told me about how it makes her feel,
Trapped, suffocated, conscious, uncomfortable.
Many people would envy her for this
But she doesn’t remember ever asking for it.

She told me how she feels displayed,
Like every single acknowledgement is a threat.
She tells me that it’s started to fill her head
With nothing but what she feared.
She wonders how it would be to look around a room,
And find that nobody even knows you’re there.

I’ve noticed her changing as each beep gets louder,
I feel like it’s playing in her head.
The looks, the voices, the smiles
They all seem to haunt her, twisting her.
She never asked to be this way..
She never asked to feel so abused.

I’ve noticed her face after she realises who’s looking,
I’ve seen the horror and sickness etched on her porcelain image.
She pretends like she didn’t notice,
But I know that’s all she sees when she opens her eyes.
She tells me that I will never know unless I live it,
That I’ll never fully understand why.

Sometimes it’s obvious, the affect is has on her..
She lives up to how she’s perceived, for she’s being watched..
With every move she makes, she is never alone.
She told me how she’s longed to be invisible,
How she’s longed to be free from them who follow her..
From them who judge.

Sometimes we can’t help but wonder..
Is she more than what you see?
