Boom

Boom, the sound beating in my ears.
Boom, the blood pounding in my mind.
Boom, the heat of battle a sum of all fears.
Boom, my maker I am soon to find.

Boom, as the bullets fly beside my head.
Boom, my loved ones I hold close to my heart.
Boom, the knowledge that i will soon be dead.
Boom, but we are never far apart.

Boom, I think of the people who curse me from home.
Boom, I'm fighting for them I tell myself.
Boom, so me and my brothers fight on alone.
Boom, I'm fighting for them and no one else.

Boom, my life flashes before my eyes.
Boom, this is my burden I chose to bear.
Boom, is there anyone sitting at home who cries.
Boom, safe in your house it's your choice to care.

Boom, this is not only my opinion you see.
Boom, you can say what you want, there's a reason for that.
Boom, my brothers and sisters all bleed green.
Boom, my family gives you those rights, remember that!

I will never forget

I lost my father in Nam, and my son fights in Iraq as I write. God Bless you for your service. Thank you for sharing your experiences and your heart. Many, many people care about what you have gone through, and are grateful for the sacrifices that are being made. Keep writing.
