author: Rebecca Ditch-Hammack (aka Dreamer)
Leprechauns and Booze Brothers
Cardinals and clowns
Pirates and Sultans
All standing around
A masquerade most fitting
A "Haunters" delight
They work thru their season
But in late June, fun they incite
Out of webrings they come
Known by their strange names
They dance in the darkness
Some might be considered truly insane
A dance for a season
These night people howl
Sharing their visions of haunting
From their crypts they all crawled
Watching from the standpoint
Of and outsider looking in
Watching their antics
I find my face has a grin
Come Halloween time
Behind the scenes they are found
Scaring the dickens out of everyone
At least those that dare come 'round
They run from all directions
Best get out of the way
It's time for the "Time Warp"
An awe-inspiring talented display
As the night winds to a close
And the hearses are filled
They head back to the motels happily
With no blood being spilled
What a ghoulish adventure
What an excellent night
Their disturbed minds now filled
With new Halloween frights
------- Author's Notes -------
Every Year, late June, there is an event here in our town called Ironstock. It is an event where the people who create the haunted houses, gadgetry, costumes, corpses movie props, and other devices get together from all over the country (and a few others as well) and share their stories their new ideas and sell their wares.. On the Saturday night the big event is called the Weasel Ball. Here they let their inner demons come out... They start the evening with a fashion show for the costume designers to show off and impress. Then the children are taken downstairs to a party of their own and the adults have a blast.. This poem barely does the event justice. There are just no words that can truly describe the event...

We were most honored to have you attend yet another Weasel Ball. Thank you for memorializing your vision in poem. Next year I will drag you onto the floor for a dance, or three.
