The Yesteryears

Laying here wide awake
I just can't go to sleep.
Everytime I close my eyes
I begin to weep.

I think about the yesteryears
the times we spent as one.
I think about the good and bad
and all the things we done.

The way we laughed and talked
and shared nights under the moon.
I remember how you would sing
one of my favorite tunes.

Laying on that blanket
under that big dark sky.
I never knew love like that
and that makes me cry,

Because the day you found me
I didn't believe dreams came true,
Until you took me by the hand
and I fell in love with you.

I didn't know I could love you
the way that you deserved
Because I had been a wounded,
fragile little bird.

My heart had been shattered
still, you held it within your hands.
When the tears streamed down my face
you seemed to understand.

You could feel the pain
I had carried for so long.
When you pulled me close to you
your love made me strong.

So much you have taught me
you taught me true love never dies,
And when one must leave
it's never really goodbye.

But my love I do miss you
and wish for you here.
Just to hold me close once more
like you did in our yesteryears.
