Through The Years

A faded photograph lies in the recesses of her mind
A snapshot of a chubby little girl with an elfin smile
Blue eyes that never failed to beguile

Sweet and kind more often than not
Aimed to please
All the while a mischievous little tease

A journal stored in the confines of an antique chest of drawers
Words scrawled across the page
In moments of bliss and teenage rage

Sensitive and caring to those in her path
Listening to others with an attentive ear
Dismissing her own heartache and tears

An old hat box tied with the ribbons of memory
Tickets torn in half, a dried flower or two
Back in the days when love was still true

Love and passion were a part of her life
Creative energy did abound
In her midst love was all around

A scrapbook with pages now tattered and faded
A lock of hair, a baby ring, an assortment of simple and sentimental tokens
Reminiscent of the days when a child’s first words were spoken

Motherly care and concern
During these years respect she did earn
Many life lessons were learned

A steamer trunk doubles as a coffee table
Sheltering treasures from a life well-lived
Filled with the all the love she once did give

A wise woman she has made her mark
A heart that swells with a fierce pride
A lady through and through
She passes on her legacy of life lived true
