Oh Sweet Death
10 April, 2007

Life, be’est thou even so cruel to me?
As to let me know love
And yet is she not mine
That I may stand so close as to smell the sweetness of her hair
Able to share neither her love nor her touch
And shake my fist at thee and cry aloud: “WHY?!”
Why let me fall in love, only to die slowly
from the pain of knowing love so deep as to hurt
and know not the tenderness of her caress
nor the honey taste of her mouth.
And when before her be smiling
Though for the agony of want
My heart beats, yet broken and dying.

But oh sweet death
Bring now thy promise of reprieve
From love unrequited, which causeth my soul to bleed
And thou oh gentle reaper, look upon me kindly
For I think it better to die once and sleep forever
Than to die of love continually
To suffer the thirst of want for her unquenchably
Come sweet death and slay me quickly, mercifully
That I feel the grave embrace me tenderly.
But, nay, stay thy hand one moment the more
Lest in my pain bring I, myself a greater doom
And through my rashness cause my self
To both live and die without her.

One of those where the pen seemed to write of its own accord. Unrequited Love is such sweet pain. :-)

Wonderfully written-this is what I like to see!

Ing, this poem is absolutely extravagant and so inescapable with a "killing me softly" kind of mood to it. I loved it! I'd really like to see more poems of love written at this site, just like the one written here. When writing on love, nature, or anything of happy serenity, that's where it picks up the readers in their everyday life. Forgive me, I am a big fan of any love poem ever written. Yours was awesome, keep writing! I'll keep reading.

Thank you miss Princess....

When I write of love I try not to explain it but to capture how it feels. Every now and then I am able actually accomplish that. i am glad you like this poem and very flattered by your words of praise. As long as you keep reading Miss Moon I will keep writing. :-)

Another great one !

Ing, your poetry is the best. This is another example of your beautiful use of words to express a side of romance which is familiar to most of us, but is beyond the scope of our words to explain. "Sweet Death" is the perfect title, and the poem is the perfect treatment of a subject I know all too well, "unrequited love".

Ing,

I have to agree with Bipe, your writing is the best! Your words are beautiful, and so powerful. Thank you for sharing your heart with us.

this is one of those times

where my fingers seem to be "locked" because the poem was so profound, there is not a word in the dictionary that can describe how good this poem is...
