Life's Shadows

I’ve lived in the shadow
From the world I hid my heart
No one could understand
Why I’m so torn apart
I’d try to be invisible
Paint an image for all to see
Afraid to show the scars
Of how cruel life was to me
My voice would often be a whisper
Sometimes lost to the human ear
At the sight of real emotion
You’d think my heart would die of fear
Is there life beyond this dream
Beyond this cold and dismal night
Do I face my demons within
And let this troubled heart take flight
In the end it’s hard to understand
To see what’s truly amiss
Though I hide in the shadows from the world
I’m silently screaming to truly exist.
