Human Hatred (revised)
7 January, 2008
Author: Bipedalguy

vinebar

When human hatred shows its hand
to people from some other land,
of different color, or way to pray,
don’t turn your head. Don’t look away.

Be not afraid to clearly see
the spreading cloud of apathy,
ignoring evil’s measured tread,
‘til all is lost and freedom’s dead.

Oppose evil wherever you go.
Stamp it out, don’t let it grow.
Ignore it not, or you may see
that, in the end, it’s come for thee.

------- Author's Notes -------

I decided to delete the second stanza of this poem which I thought it was a little redundant. I made a few other small changes.

good thoughts

i've always told my kids that if they see someone hurting someone else, either physically or emotionally, or if they know of something that is not right, and they have the ability to do something about it, that if they just stand by and don't step in, then they are condoning that action by their inaction. There are too many who will "cross the street" to avoid getting involved, which is a shame.

Thanks, Shiloh

Your comment reflects exactly what I was trying to express in the poem. In the 20th century we saw some terrible examples of a whole society looking the other way. It usually takes a lot of courage to objectively judge what's wrong and stand up for what's right.

I'll have to look up "The Peace Pipe". I'll probably like it. He was a very good writer.
