Neighbor At The Fence
11 April, 2008

He was the neighbor across the fence,
The friendliest man you might meet.
His conversation was light hearted,
I’m glad he lived on our street.

We’d visit sometimes for an hour,
I never heard him complain.
He enjoyed his time in the yard,
No matter if sunshine or rain.

He had problems like we all do
But his smile was always stronger.
He refreshed me like the springtime,
I wish I’d known him longer.

------- Author's Notes -------

A friend and neighbor died recently. I attended his funeral and had these thoughts.

Neighbor at the Fence

Thanks Terrye. I think we are all struck when some one is taken suddenly and unexpectedly. It helps to know others share those feelings. Your response gives a strength that is appreciated.
