Moments Of Distress
22 April, 2008

feeling restless
uneasy
and maybe even a bit nervous
and i don't know why
but i wish that time would pass
quickly
and get me beyond these feelings
because they are bothering me
and i can't handle something
that i can't name
or understand
or that i am at the mercy of

can't seem to do anything else
for more than a few minutes
because i keep feeling
these feelings
and until they pass
i'm just wasting time
and not getting ahead
with anything

can't even enjoy my music
because of this gnawing thing
in the back of my mind
in the front of my mind
everywhere in my mind
(do you mind?)
(don't mind if i do.)
(no, i don't mind.)
(but i'll keep it in mind...)

right now i would like to be at the base of an old tree
next to a small stream
surrounded by wildflowers
and the ground dappled by the sunlight
passing through the leaves overhead
with nothing more important
to consider
than the sounds made by the stream
as it passes by
as it passes over the stones
as it winds it's way away from where i sit

but the idyllic scene in my mind
is soon overcome
by that other thing
that has taken up residence
at least for the moment
in the confines of my mind
and the pastoral mental pictures
that i have conjured up
are too soon covered up
by the dark gray of the feelings
that are so boldly taking over the stage
within my mind

(do you mind?)
(don't mind if i do.)
(no, i don't mind.)
(but i'll keep it in mind...)
