I gotta keep my eyes open
I gotta get to Lubbock on time
‘cause there’s a bull that ain’t been ridden
And I wanna make that bounty mine.

(Verse I)
Well I’ve been driving since yesterday
Trying hard to stay awake
By doing everything that I can
My body’s battered and bruised
Pissed off cause I hate to lose
Getting thrown this time around wasn’t part of the plan.

I followed him all over the place
From New York to Santa Fe
And I swear I almost rode him down in San Antone.
But when he blew outta the gate
He went left when he should’ve went straight
And I wound up getting thrown.

(Chorus)
That’s why I gotta keep my eyes open
I gotta get to Lubbock on time
‘cause there’s a bull that ain’t been ridden
And I wanna make that bounty mine

(Verse II)
My wife’s blowing up the phone
Telling me to get back home
She said “this aint the promise you made to me”
I tell her she’ll have to wait.
Me and that bull have ourselves a date.
Besides I done paid my entry fee.

He’s been bucking a year or two
Thrown every cowboy that I knew
But I know what I gotta do this time around.
I’m gonna rosin up my glove
Say a prayer to the man above
Then I’m gonna ride that son of bitch straight into the ground.

Repeat chorus 2x’s

------- Author's Notes -------

A friend asked me to write him a song about his rodeo career. I thought this pretty much summed it up. He was always chasing the dream. So here's to you Jason.
