Breakfast: Coffee, Eggs, And Love

Asleep in the dreams of the day gone by,
And the day to be tomorrow,
With her in my arms sleeping so sound.

I didn’t feel her stir a bit
As I slipped my arm from under her neck.
My arm hung low, dead asleep,
As I dreamily stumbled through the door.

Down the stairs followed my trusty lion,
Close behind me step by step,
On the prowl for play and for food.

We made it to the kitchen.
By now my arm had its strength back,
Though I still fought the painful needle pricks
As I ran my hand over my companions mane.

My lion laid himself lazily on the floor.
Seemingly he was eying my every move,
His eyes darting left and right, while his head lifted slightly up.

Ever so quietly I made the coffee,
Cracked the eggs in the pan,
And placed some bread in the toaster;
The making of a simple breakfast.

While our meal cooked I ventured to feed my friend.
Knowing all the time of my routine, he followed
As if testing my performance.

First he walked me to the closet
Where he nosed the bowl checking its quantity.
Next he checked the temperature of his fresh water.
Before he began his devouring, he looked toward me for approval:

“Is it alright if I eat before you two?”
His eyed question innocently.
“Go ahead; you know you’ll want our food too”

When both his meal was gone, and ours has finished,
I plated everything and carefully ascended the stairs.
Much to my surprise, while I took a glance down at the kitchen table
I saw it looked not as it did before;

There were flowers and napkins,
There was a sweet music to the air,
And standing to the side was the reason for all of this.

“Come, bring that food down here,” she gently said.
I set up the dishes at our places,
Then we closed in for an embrace only to make it a dog sandwich.
“We Love you too,” we both whispered with eyes locked

wondrous words!

The grand slam at Denny's will never be the same!
Sounds like a fun way to spend a bed and breakfast!
If life were a circus you would be the ringmaster!
