Carl...

When you get to where you're going,
then you'll sit and rest a while...
When you look back on everything,
all that time, all the things you did,
when you remember those special moments,
the ones you carried with you,
the ones that made you smile,
you'll have a lot of happiness there with you.

Even though you're gone now,
you still have all of that good behind you
to keep you company.
and while some will cry,
we will all smile with the remembering,
because life was that good for you.

When you look back,
you'll see the beauty of all you made,
the beauty of all you did,
the beauty of all you were,
all you meant to others...
and you'll know that you're remembered,
just as surely as you're loved and missed.

You'll understand that the measure of a man's life
is not just in what he did, what he made,
but in the feelings he instilled in those he cared about.
The wealth he left behind is not in coin or land,
but in those he made his family and friends,
and the hearts that miss him now.

peace, my friend...

------- Author's Notes -------

...a neighbor, a friend, someone important to me and my family for more than thirty years, left this world on 18 August.
he was a very important part of our lives.
he is missed, and he is remembered.
