For Love

Come, and let us speak together of love
But let us speak of love plainly
For love, if allowed to be, as it is naturally
Is simple, transparent, clear, and un-fettered
As it were, the wind, easy to find
If, we be left open to it.

Is there any other such irony as love
All long for it, pray for it, hope, and wish for it
And yet, name me one who does not fear it
Tremble at it, withdraw from it
as a hand from a hot flame
T’would be laughable, were it not so sad

Love, if allowed to enter the heart
Stirs within us the noblest of aspects
Strength, hope, joy, faith, and selflessness
And for all the good it brings to us
We yet treat it as though it were a cancer
A foreboding sentence, doomed to happiness.

I therefore contend that the complexity of love
Comes not of love itself, but of our individual fears
And through our fears place boundaries upon love
Criteria impossible, even for love to achieve
Thus ensuring our lives remain safely, love free
Affording us the luxury, of an endless search

For Love
