What Will Never Be

We were close once
Close to something very special, you and I
Close to something that is only seen in fairytales
Close to that happy ending that everyone searches for
But now I know that that is something that will never be

You used to smile at me
A smile so innocent and pure
It would make my heart melt with longing
Longing for when we could be together forever
But now I know that that is something that will never be

We would spend days together
Days spent out in the sunshine, or at home relaxing
Days that would stretch into nights
Days that I hoped would never end
But now I know that that is something that will never be

You curled up in my arms one night
Curled up and felt comfortable and relaxed
It felt so natural and right having you in my arms that way
You told me that you would be happy doing that for the rest of your life
But now I know that that is something that will never be

We talked about a future
A future full of life, fun, happiness and adventures
A life full of family and all that one could ever hope for
But now I know that that is something that will never be

You have made your choice, made your decision
And now I know that for me
The future that I had hoped and prayed for
At least with you will never be
