Venus In Flames
1 April, 2011
Author: John Feddeler

vinebar

Sat a young farm boy
There by the silo;
Took one lump of coal,
Sculpted Venus de Milo.

Warm was his heart
Just to view his creation;
Most beautiful of treasures
In all of the nation.

More valued than gold,
More precious than diamond;
On seeing this Lady
Even gods would be stunned.

Less sleek was fine satin,
Less black was the raven.
No lovelier Angel
On earth or in heaven.

But chill was the night,
For warmth did they yearn.
So Papa took the Lady:
One more lump to burn...

Rose her soul quickly
To the holy and higher;
No fuel burned more swiftly
In all of the fire.
